WATERVILLE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It looks like those who live along the Maumee River may have avoided major flooding this year.

"We thought for sure this year was record number snow fall that we would be getting it again, but I'm thinking we may have dodged a bullet on this one," said Waterville resident and council member Barb Bruno.

The Maumee River ice jam broke up on Sunday. With ice chunks clearing out, villages like Waterville and Grand Rapids saw the river hit only moderate flood stage.

The ice could still jam up again farther down the river, but it appears homeowners have avoided disaster so far.

"You know, we just can never can predict. It's so dynamic, nature, it just....it is never what you think it is going to be," said Bruno.
