There is only one public meeting left before Beaufort County's Student Services Committee drafts a final proposal for its attendance zones.
No final decisions were made on Monday night at Okatie Elementary School. However, they did talk about "grandfathering" in those students who live in the Moss Creek, Old South, and The Gatherings areas, if they are already enrolled in Hilton Head schools. They also talked about building two separate high schools in Bluffton, instead of creating two campuses with one athletics program.
"The concept that we hear is that they are concerned what it will do to Friday night football. Well, Friday night football will just mean that we will have twice the number of students participating, twice the number of parents cheering on their child, and twice the number of opportunities for those students to be recognized by somebody other than the community," said Dr. Jeffrey Moss, Beaufort County Superintendent.
School board members will meet again at the same time and place on Wednesday night. Then, the committee will present a final proposal to the school board. The board will discuss it one last time at their March 29 workshop.
