Name of man killed in Hilton Head Island wreck released

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Police have released the name of the man that was killed in the wreck on William Hilton Parkway and Sheltver Cove Lane in Hilton head.

Jeromie Eric Stewart, 43, of Hilton Head, died when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree.  

Troopers responded to the wreck around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

SCHP Cpl. Sonny Collins said Stewart was not wearing a seatbelt. He also says a female passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and was injured badly.

That passenger had to be flown to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. Her condition is still unknown.

U.S. 278 westbound was closed to traffic for a couple of hours, but re-opened to traffic at 5 a.m.

The autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina.

The crash is still under investigation.
