A Bulloch County grand jury has indicted a Statesboro man on murder charges in connection with the death of a 4 month old.

Bulloch County sheriff's deputies and EMS responded on Sept. 12, 2013 to a mobile home in the 2000 block of Old Register Road on a report of a 4 month old not breathing. The child was taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center when he later died.

Allan Ray Williams, 29, told investigations that the infant had chocked while drinking a bottle in his crib, saw the child in distress and called for help.

Inconsistencies were evident in Williams' story, based on several interviews with him, others and the processing of the mobile home, according to the sheriff's office.

An autopsy by the GBI's Coastal Regional Crime Lab determined that the infant's cause of death differed from Williams' story, according to the BCSO.

Williams was charged on Sept. 27, 2013, with second-degree cruelty to children and making false statements. He has since remained in custody.

On March 16, the Bulloch County grand jury indicted Williams on charges of felony murder, second-degree cruelty to children and making false statements.

He remains in custody without bond at the Bulloch County jail.
