SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Hundreds of cyclists took over the area in front of City Hall on Thursday.

The Savannah Bicycle Campaign held a group ride from Ellis Square to City Hall - thanking leaders for helping making Savannah safer, friendlier and more convenient for cyclists in the city.

Organizers say there is still work to be done, but this is a way to show they appreciate all the work so far.

"We just want out leaders to know there is support for cycling in Savannah and that it does great things for you from an economic development, public health [and] environmental. Even if we just look at reducing demand for parking; it is something that everybody should get behind," said John Bennett, executive director of the Savannah Bicycle Campaign.

The event coincides with the annual ride to the capital campaign in Atlanta.
