Brooklet City Council makes decision on their police

Posted: Updated:
BROOKLET, GA (WTOC) -

Brooklet City Council's recent consideration of dissolving the town's police department caused a crowd to gather at a City Council meeting to decide whether or not Brooklet should disband the police department and let Bulloch County's Sheriff's Office take over.

However, the residents overwhelmingly voiced they wanted Brooklet's police to stay.

Brooklet resident, Michael Newton said, "Each one of these police officers has put me in handcuffs and put me in jail. And they've shown no favoritism and we're still friends. They've turned my life around."

While the push to shut down the police department was strictly because of budget concerns, the Brooklet City Council decided to keep the Brooklet Police Department.
