Driver in custody after US 278, Buckwalter Pkwy wreck

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

Bluffton police say a driver was driving under the influence and without a driver's license after a three-vehicle crash that occurred Friday morning.

Bluffton police responded at about 8 a.m. Friday to a crash on US 278 and Buckwalter Parkway.

Police investigators determined that Felipe Santos-Hernandez ran a red light on US 278 at Buckwalter Parkway and hit another vehicle causing that vehicle to strike a vehicle in the eastbound left turning lane.

Santos-Hernandez and five other people were taken to Coastal Carolina Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

One other person was taken to Memorial University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Santos-Hernandez was driving under the influence of alcohol and without a driver's license. 

Santos-Hernandez was later taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center after being released from the hospital.
