Red Cross surprises Dollars for Disaster winning schools

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Over 25 Savannah Chatham County Schools raised more than $17,000 for local victims of disasters.

The schools participated in the annual Southeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross annual Dollars for Disasters Campaign.

The winning classes at each participating school won pizza parties, courtesy of Domino's Pizza and a trophy to display at their school from the American Red Cross.

"Congratulations and thank you to each school, student, teacher and administrator who participated in the Annual Dollars for Disasters Campaign," said Dr. Quentina Miller-Fields, American Red Cross board member and Dollars for Disasters campaign chair, in a statement.

The overall winner and middle school winner is West Chatham Middle School. Students raised $5,080. The school has earned both titles for the fifth straight year.

The high school winner is Islands High School. Students raised $908. They earned the title for the third year in a row.

The K-8 school winner was Godley Station with a total of $998. It's the school's first win.

The winning elementary school is Jacob G. Smith Elementary School with a total of $753. It's the school's first win.
