POOLER, GA (WTOC) -

Crews responded to a crash Monday morning involving a car and a Chatham County school bus.

It happened around 8 a.m. on Jimmy Deloach Pkwy near Serengeti Blvd in Pooler. Officials say a school bus was broken down on the side of the road and had caution cones up to alert drivers when a car came along a ran into the back of the school bus. Two adults and one student were on the bus at the time. One of the adults on the bus complained of pain and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The other adult and the one student on board were not injured.

Police say the driver of the car was not injured and a passenger who was in the car managed to jump out and flee the scene. Police are not sure why that passenger fled at this time.

"That is the only thing we run into. We don't know if there is 10, 20, 40 people on there. Fortunately, there was just the one injury this morning," said Pooler Fire Chief Wade Simmons.

A small section of Jimmy Deloach at Serengeti had to be closed for a short time but it has since reopened to traffic.  The crash is under investigation.
