A man accused in the fatal shooting of an Isle of Hope firefighter had been scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Brandon Mackey was indicted in July connection with June 25, 2012, death of Wesley Franklin, 21, during an armed robbery outside the Deb's Pub & Grub.

Mackey is charged with felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, two counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and two counts of theft by taking.

On Monday, Mackey was granted a continuance. His defense attorney said they have just received the results of a competency evaluation and have requested more time to look over the results.

Judge Walmsley said that the next steps in the case will be to move forward to a motions calendar and then a trial docket call. There is no word yet on when all of that will take place.
