Man arrested in connection with Beaufort club shooting

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

A St. Helena man wanted in connection with a shooting at a Beaufort club was arrested Monday.

Jaquan Lamont Chaplin, 18, surrendered himself to investigators early Monday morning. He was wanted on one count of second degree assault and battery by mob.

According to witnesses, Chaplin and other suspects surrounded a vehicle at approximately 12:30 a.m. on March 9 during an altercation with the three occupants of the vehicle.

The suspects attempted to pull the occupants out of the vehicle when one of the occupants, a 19-year-old male, was shot several times by Russell Trent Manigo, Jr., 21.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized.

On March 18, another identified suspect was arrested. Ernest Major, III, 18, was arrested and charged with one count of second degree assault and battery by mob.

Manigo remains at large, and he is wanted on three counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He is considered armed and dangerous.
