Rescuers search for survivors of small plane crash

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - Rescuers are searching for survivors of a reported small-plane crash near Brunswick.

The Coast Guard said in a news release Monday night that a twin-engine plane carrying two people disappeared from radar earlier in the day. The release said residents in the area heard what sounded like a crash near Grant Creek on Mackay River, east of Golden Isles Aviation in St. Simons Island.

The release said Coast Guard, local sheriff's officials and crews from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources reported "multiple debris fields consistent with a small plane crash" but have not yet located the passengers.

Coast Guard officials have suspended their search until Tuesday morning.

Maj. Stephen Adams of the Natural Resources department's law enforcement division said crews from the department were still searching late Monday.
