Medient Studios to film horror movie in Savannah

Medient Studios, which is planning the building of a Studioplex in Effingham County, has announced it will film it's first movie of 2014 in Savannah.

The Damned, a possession horror genre movie, is written by Georgia based writer Chad Darnell. The media company start filming in the third quarter of the year.

The company expects to hire much of the production crew from the local area.

"We have lined up an exciting slate for the year. We wanted to kick off the slate with ‘The Damned' to underline our commitment to creating a sustainable movie business in the region," said Medient CEO Manu Kumaran in a news release. "The focus will continue to remain on local talent even as we scale up our operations."

The new Studioplex in Effingham County will be built on more than 1,500 acres of property. The new $90 million movie studio is expected to employ up to 1,200 people with a massive music venue and video gaming complex on site.

Shore Development and Construction will manage the building of their new facility.

Administration is excited about the upcoming project.

"Its projected to be the largest sound stage and studio in the world. We are really excited about the opportunity to work with Medient to build this facility, it would truly be one of a kind, world-class facility that will really have no rivals until maybe somebody builds something bigger, but for now it will definitely be the biggest," said President Jeremy Blackburn.

They hope to have phase one completed by 2015.
