Identity released of Crystal Springs flag man killed in accident

CRYSTAL SPRINGS, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A flag man working on the side of Highway 51 near Crystal Springs was killed in an accident on Tuesday morning.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol identifies the victim as 39-year-old Garrvin Barnes of Union Church. He was employed by Dickerson & Bowen.

The wreck occurred at 10:30 am near Byron Lumber Company in Copiah County. Trooper Julius Hutson says a Ford Escape and a Chevy Caprice were both headed southbound.

The vehicles crashed and collided into Barnes. Officials tell us he died on the scene.

One motorist was taken to UMMC with unknown injuries. No charges have been filed.
