HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Reading pays off, especially if you're participating in the Heritage Classic Foundation's Plaid About Reading program.

This year, Hilton Head Island Elementary took home not one, but two, reading prizes, earning $1,000 dollars from the RBC Heritage.

They won by reading the most pages out of the 11 participating schools.

Sir Willie Innes stopped by Tuesday afternoon to personally congratulate some of the winners and spend time with the winning class.

"I love reading, and it makes me feel proud because I get to meet the people from the Heritage and I feel honored," said fourth grader Edgar Romero.

"They read thousands and thousands of pages of books, I can't even fathom how many pages that is, I mean the quills must have been working overtime to put that many pages together," joked Sir Willie Innes.

Four of the top six student readers were also from Hilton Head Island Elementary.

They will win tickets to the RBC Heritage.
