JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Jefferson County officials are hoping road repairs will be on their way in the coming weeks.

The county is expecting to have two new road pavers. The county also has budgeted for 30 employees for roads and transportation.

Jefferson County Manager Tony Petelos told county commissioners Tuesday, March 25 the county would need more than 100 workers to meet the needs of road repairs. Still, the employment process is not expected to happen quickly.

"The process of employment is very slow now. We have a receiver in place. Ms. Pate stated that we can get our workers to work overtime until we can fill those slots and vacancies. Hopefully we can put that on the fast track. I think the receiver knows our needs," Commissioner Sandra Little Brown said.

Commissioner Jimmie Stephens said trash pickup remains a big problem but they can't afford to have county workers to do the job. Stephens added it would be up to community volunteer efforts instead.
