Suspect sought in sexual assault attempt

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted sexual assault that occurred Wednesday night on St. Helena Island.

Deputies responded at about 10 p.m. to the area of No Mans Land Lane on St. Helena. They met with a 27-year-old woman who had abrasions on  her body.  She was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

The woman told investigators that she was walking in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on St. Helena, she accepted a ride from a black male subject in a dark-colored vehicle.  While in the vehicle, the suspect demanded that the victim remove her clothing. 

The victim got into physical fight with him and did remove part of her clothing, but was able to open the door of the vehicle, according to the BCSO.  That's when she was pushed out of the vehicle while it was still moving.
