Georgia DNR, SCMPD holding boater safety course

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources and the SCMPD Marine Patrol Unit will be conducting a boater safety course on Saturday, April 19.

The course is required of boaters of certain ages to operate certain vessels and is free.

A new Mandatory Education Law goes into effect on July 1, and requires anyone born after Jan. 1, 1998, to have successfully complete a Georgia DNR approved boater education course to operate a powerboat in the state of Georgia.

To register for the course, contact the SCMPD Savannah mall Training Center at 912.353.1004. The class is limited to 30 participants.

The class begins at 9 a.m. at the SCMPD training facility in the Savannah Mall and will be finished at 4 p.m. Participants will also have a lunch break.

This class will not be offered again until May 17.
