SOCIAL CIRCLE, GA (WTOC) - -

Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Law Enforcement Division has announced last year's boating officer of the year.

Cpl. Jeremy Bolen was recently selected for the 2013 Georgia Boating Officer of the Year, due to his oustanding work.

Rangers with Georgia DNR Law Enforcement have to be able to perform search and rescues, boating safety enforcement, and boating safety education.

Bolen, who has been with DNR since 2001, serves as a conservation ranger assigned to Muscogee and Talbot counties in east central Georgia. The area he covers is a very active boating area, according to a DNR press release. He works four major bodies of water, one of which is the Chattahoochee River.

Adding to his daily boating duties, Bolen was able to complete the 32-hour NASBLA Level 1 boat incident class, which helps investigate boating incidents. Bolen spoke to civic groups, home owner's associations, television interviews, and recorded a radio public service announcement to help provide education to the public.
