BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

Two more dolphins were found dead over the weekend, according to Wayne McFee with NOAA.

This brings the total to five reported dolphin deaths since March 17.

One dolphin was found Saturday near Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island, making it the second one found in that area.

McFee said that dolphin was a juvenile female who was too decomposed for them to take samples.

The other dolphin was found Sunday in Port Royal which was emaciated and suffered from pneumonia.

They were able to take samples from this dolphin to test for morbillivirus—which was the primary cause of death for the 100+ dolphins that were stranded last year.

The official cause of death is unknown at this time. However, McFee said it could because these dolphins are migrating back up north.
