SSU students coming together to discuss safety

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah State University students came together on Monday night for a student forum, to discuss a number of their concerns with the school; one being, safety.

It was a hot topic for some students, especially after students say there was an attempted robbery, and a gun went off Sunday night. Some students say, for the most part, they do feel safe. But, they do think thinks there is room for improvements.

"I feel safe the majority of the time, however, I feel like our security force is more so for show, than actually completing their task. I should not have to worry about walking to or from various academic buildings, or walking to my home. I should be able to feel safe," said Breanne Hardison, student.

The Savannah State Police Department has launched a new bike unit, as part of their crime suppression unit. They are supposed to stop crimes before they actually happen. Some students say they have already noticed a difference.
