ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Cyclists say it can be dangerous out on Albany roads.

At Breakaway Cycles, owners say more people are out on the road cycling after the Daylight Saving Time change.

April is distracted driver awareness month and cycling enthusiasts say they see a lot of people texting while driving.

Owner Gene Kirk says it's important to pay attention to your surroundings, wear bright colors, and use reflectors to avoid accidents with drivers.

"Everyone has had a close call when they can see someone looking down at their phone and come close to hitting you," said Kirk. "It's kind of nature of the beast. The more you ride the more comfortable you get with it, but it can be dangerous at times."

Texting while driving is illegal in the state of Georgia.
