SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Collegiate 100 Black Men of Savannah State University held their 4th annual scholarship gala.

The scholarship gala presented tuition assistance scholarships to 5 Savannah-Chatham area students who have excelled in the classroom. The scholarships can be applied towards their higher education ambitions.

"We take a look at what college they want to go to, they don't have to go to Savannah State University, they can go to any college of their choice. We kind of evaluate what they've done while they were in high school, what they do for the community, what their goals are, and basically that's how we evaluate them," said Frederick McLeod, President of Collegiate 100 SSU.

The keynote speaker was Mayor of Savannah, Edna B. Jackson.
