Grand re-opening of Bluffton Fire Station 33

After almost a year of renovations, Bluffton Fire Station #33 is complete.

The public got a chance to tour the new building following Thursday's grand re-opening.

The new station has almost 2,500 more square feet, allowing separate rooms, offices and a fitness area.

Most importantly, the station can now house county EMS services to reduce response times.

During the renovations, the crew stayed in the same building, which made life a little interesting.

"It's been a long road, there's been a lot of hurdles, but in the end, it's always exciting for the Fire Chief to be able to uncouple the hose and then a new facility for the citizens," said John Thompson, Bluffton Township Fire Chief.

"We were in approximately 400 square feet, we used our women's restroom as our kitchen area, we had a microwave in a sink and pretty much that was it, we did a lot of take out, it's good to be in our new station," said Captain Walt Cooler.

The fire district's reserve funds paid for the renovations.
