Donations being accepted, fundraiser planned for Greer fire victims

GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Riverwood Farms Home Owners Association has setup a fire fund account and is asking for donations to help the victims of the massive fire which destroyed four homes and damaged ten others in the Greer neighborhood..

Firefighters said a discarded cigarette likely sparked a fire that destroyed a triplex and a free-standing house on Dillard Road on Wednesday.

The Riverwood Farms HOA said donations can be made at any Greenville or Spartanburg branch of Bank of America.

The victims also need clothing, household items, and personal hygiene items.

The HOA said a list of needed items will be posted on the Riverwood Farm Subdivision Fire Fund Facebook Page.

Those donations can be dropped off at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Greer.

Jim Marshall said items can also be dropped off at the Go Green Charity Recyclers, Inc. thrift shop on Laurens Road in Greenville.

Marshall said all donated items will be taken to the church.

A fundraiser to benefit the families has also been scheduled for May 10, 2014 at Pleasant Grove Field located at Highway 14 and Gibbs Shoals Road.
