12th District Race Still Undecided

Update: The following is a statement from Burns' office early this afternoon:

(Augusta, GA) - U.S. Representative Max Burns (GA-12) today congratulated Democrat challenger John Barrow in the race for Georgia's 12th District.  Congressman Burns also pledged to help in the transition of congressional records for Barrow's office in Washington.


The results for one of the biggest races in Georgia race have not been finalized. Democrat John Barrow, who is running for the 12th Congressional District seat is claiming victory. Around 1am he gave his victory speech at his campaign headquarters in Athens.

But his opponent, incumbent Max Burns, has not given up yet. They are still counting absentee and early ballots before they can make a final decision.

Here are the current numbers:

Max Burns: 99,888

John Barrow: 108,285

Burns told his gathering in Augusta that he was counting on winning this election. Burns sent his supporters home around midnight, telling them to expect a win when the dust clears.
