A Savannah man is in serious condition in the hospital after being struck by a car while he was sitting on a bench in Forsyth Park on Friday, according to police.
Acccording to Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police, Kenneth Roebuck II, 52, of a Dianne McKenzie Way address was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with two broken legs after the 2:45 p.m. accident at Bull and Gaston streets.
Officers with the SCMPD Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) said Roebuck was struck by a 2006 Mazda driven by Yvette Grogins, 52.
The driver was exiting a driveway to turn east onto Gaston Street and lost control when Grogins accelerated to avoid an approaching vehicle. The Mazda ended up running over the curb on the north side of the park, crossed the sidewalk and struck the bench where Roebuck was sitting after riding his bicycle, according to police.
