SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The largest group yet turned out to the Ronald McDonald House off of Waters Avenue for the "Red Shoes Run."

The 5K helped raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire, which helps provide funds that directly enhance the health and well-being of children and families.

"We have already served over 120 families in the first quarter of 2014, and the number is just increasing. These are the events that allow us to do what we need to do for our children and families," said Bill Sorchak, Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald House, Charities of the Coastal Empire.

The 5K has been dubbed as the "mini-bridge run."

Also, the "Red Shoes Run" teamed up with the "Teddy Bear Hospital" for a day of fun. After the run, folks stuck around for the free "Teddy Bear Hospital" to help fix any stuffed animals that may have been falling apart.

The"Teddy Bear Hospital" is held every year by the Children's Hospital at Memorial, and is designed to help decrease children's fear of coming to a hospital.

"We are really thrilled to partner with the Ronald McDonald House this year, because both groups work to serve children and the families of this community. It is a great opportunity for kids to get here, and to learn a little about what it is like to be in the hospital, and to demistfy the whole thing," said Eric Pearlman, Medical Director/Physician, and Chef, of the Children's Hospital.

WTOC served as a proud sponsor of the event.
