Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are searching for the suspect that stole a green SUV with a child asleep in the back seat on Sunday morning.
The child and the SUV were located near the Exchange Club Fairgrounds around 8:00 a.m., according to Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesperson. The child was found safe and reunited with his grandmother. Police are searching more than six miles from the incident for the suspect.
The green Dodge Durango loaded with newspapers and displaying a skydiver's emblem in the rear window was stolen around 4:45 a.m. Sunday when the driver, a newspaper delivery person for the Savannah Morning News, stopped at the Parker's convenience store at Derrenne Ave and Skidaway Road.
A white male appearing to be in his mid- to late-20s jumped in the vehicle and drove away. He is described as 5-8 to 5-9, weighing 125-135 with a crew cut hair style. He was wearing a blue short sleeve shirt and blue pants.
An Amber Alert was posted through the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Officers from all Metro precincts, canine, aviation and Criminal Investigations units as well as the GBI had participated in the search.
