Police investigate crash, shots fired overnight in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Police swarmed an area in Savannah overnight after a car crashed into someone's yard.

Over a dozen officers responded to 58th and Meding streets around 1 a.m., even setting up crime scene tape and bringing out a mobile crime scene unit to the scene.

Police say a white Suburban crashed in the front yard of a home on Meding St. A small fire broke out and crews quickly put out the flames.

Police confirmed that shots were heard a few blocks away; However they are not sure if the shots fired and the crash are related at this time, and say the investigation may take some time.

No arrests have been made and officials have not released any word on any suspects. The condition of the driver is currently unknown.

Officers had a large section around the scene blocked off, but all roads re-opened around 4:20 a.m.

The investigation into exactly what happened is ongoing.
