Columbus' ships docked at Beaufort Marina

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

The weather was perfect on Tuesday to take a history tour abroad two famous ships anchored in historic downtown Beaufort.

In case you missed the chance to see them in Savannah, the replicas of Christopher Columbus' Nina and Pinta ships are docked all week long at the Beaufort Marina.

The Nina is considered the most historically accurate Columbus ship ever built at 65 feet long and 18 feet wide.

The Pinta was recently built in Brazil and is larger than the original version.

"It's great to share history, and it's also great to be able to travel around the country in ways that no one else gets to do, especially on 15th Century caravels, and to meet and see a whole lot of new places," said Nina Capt. Stephen Sanger.

After this week, the Nina and Pinta will head toward Georgetown, and then on to Morehead City, NC.
