Escaped inmate surrenders himself to authorities in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Dana Ross, the escaped inmate that has been on the run since March 28, surrendered himself to the Coastal Transitional Center in Savannah on Wednesday.

Ross initially notified the Evans County Sheriff's Office that he was planning on surrendering himself to them, but then returned to the Coastal Transitional Center, the facility that he fled late last month.

Ross has prior convictions for fleeing, obstruction and drug related crimes and was considered dangerous.

The Department of Natural Resources is also stressing safety throughout the weekend.  Officers say that they'll be cracking down on the usual charges, such as those not wearing seatbelts, or drinking and driving.
