Hundreds attend vigil for Montrez Burroughs

Hundreds filled the streets of West Savannah on Thursday night to remember 11-year-old Montrez Burroughs.

The little boy was shot and killed while he and a 12-year-old relative were playing with a gun in a home on Church Street.

Family, friends and supporters gathered on Hudson Street to light candles, sing songs and share stories about the young man whose life was tragically cut short.

"He is never going to get the chance to have a kid of his own," said Keenth Lowe, Burroughs' cousin. "He's never going to be able to show his mama that he can graduate from high school. The other kid may not get a chance, they may take his life and incarcerate him for life. There are the things that kids need to know."

The 12 year old is being charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm. He remains in the Youth Regional Detention Center.
