Investigation continues into couple's death

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the death of a Seabrook couple Thursday night.

Deputies responded at about 7 p.m. Thursday to a home on Brown's Island Road for a health and welfare check the home's residents, 80-year-old Jeanette Chinn and her husband, 81-year-old Brian Chinn.

Friends and neighbors said they had been contacted by the couple's son them to check them because he had been unable to reach them for several days.

Neighbors looked through window and saw the couple lying in the bedroom and called 911. Deputies went in to the home and discovered the couple and their dog dead at the scene.

A preliminary assessment and evidence suggests that it may have been a murder-suicide, according to the sheriff's office. They found no evidence of any third-party involvement, and the home was secure when deputies got there.

"Preliminary results [show] it does look like a murder-suicide, however, we're still working out the details of when it happened and exactly what transpired between the two of them," said Robin McIntosh, spokeswoman for the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

A firearm was recovered at the scene. The Chinns had sufferend from a single gunshot wound. Their cause and manner of death is pending autopsy. The investigation into their deaths continues.
