SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Participants are now able to pick up their packets for the Komen Savannah Race for the Cure. The all important 5K fundraiser in the fight against breast cancer steps off on Saturday morning.

People have been picking up packets all day at the Jepson Center on Barnard Street.

There are nearly 5,000 people running or walking in Saturday's event, and the goal for this year's race was to raise $220,000, which they have already exceeded.

Sevety-five percent of the money raised will stay local, going toward research and cancer prevention.

Volunteers have been busy all day setting up for the event in Telfair Square.

They already have vendors out selling anything and everything pink. The race starts at 8:15 a.m. Saturday morning and to see a sea of pink running and walking through downtown Savannah.

"We walk and then we reach the end," said runner Katina Wheeler. "We pretend that we ran the whole way so then we start running at the very end."

It's not too late to register, it's $35, event organizers will be at the Jepson Center until 7:30 p.m. and will be at the event start at 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
