Breast cancer survivors come together for reception in Telfair Square

Posted: Updated:

Breast cancer survivors are gathering at Telfair Square for a special reception, kicking off the festivities for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

More than 150 breast cancer survivors are celebrating life at the Survivor Reception.

Nearly 10 percent of those running or walking in Saturday's race have had breast cancer, and all of the survivors who have registered for the race are invited to attend this VIP Survivor Reception.

A band is playing for the women, some who are celebrating remission and others who are still fighting.

The is a way for these women to bond and share their stories.

"It means a lot to be a survivor today," said Elizabeth Myers, breast cancer survivor and Survivor Chairperson. "I'm a 12 year survivor this year, there are a lot of women who are two week survivors and there are some women who are 48 year survivors."

Don't forget to pick up your packets. Organizers will be in Telfair Square until 7:30 p.m.
