Town of Bluffton has positions available on boards and commissions

Posted: Updated:

The Town of Bluffton has vacant volunteer positions available on several of its Boards and Commissions:

  • Board of Zoning Appeals -- 1 position
  • Construction Board of Adjustments/Appeals – 2 positions
  • Planning Commission – 1 position
  • Bluffton Public Development Corporation – 1 position
  • May River Watershed Action Plan Advisory Committee – 1 position
  • Historic Preservation Commission – 3 positions
  • Beautification Committee – 1 position
  • Affordable Housing – 1 position

Town leaders are encouraging everyone with interest in any of the committees to submit an application. They will compile all applications regardless of vacancies in a bank in order to vet applicants before vacancies occur.

To apply, you must be a resident or business owner in the Town of Bluffton.

The Historic Preservation Commission, however, is an exception go this rule. This commission requires specific skill sets, therefore the town council has approved accepting applications from people outside of town limits.

A citizen or business owner may only serve two consecutive terms of three years each on a board or commission.

Descriptions of each Board and Commission are located on the Town of Bluffton's website.  Go to website, click on "Government" in the left-hand panel, click on "Boards and Commissions."

Town Council appoints each member of each board.

The fifteen boards and commissions are as follows:

  • Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee
  • Affordable Housing Committee
  • Beautification Committee
  • Bluffton Public Development Corporation
  • Board of Zoning Appeals
  • Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals
  • Don Ryan Center For Innovation
  • Historic Preservation Committee
  • May River Watershed Action Plan Advisory Committee
  • Municipal Elections Commission
  • Negotiating Committee
  • Planning Commission
  • Public Safety Citizens Committee
  • Wall of Honor Committee
  • Water Quality Technical Advisory Committee

For more information about the positions, please call Kim Chapman, executive assistant to the Mayor and Town Manager, at 843.706.4505.
