SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Chatham County Health Department's Dr. Martha B. Fay Public Health Center/Chatham County Health Dept. facility on Eisenhower Drive has been named Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Status by the U.S. Green Building Council.

This distinction makes the Chatham County Health Dept. the only health department in the Southeastern United States and only one of a handful of health departments throughout the entire country to achieve this rating.

Patrick Shay, Senior Principle with architecture and urban development firm Gunn Meyerhoff Shay, along with health department officials, designed the building and spearheaded the LEED certification for the building.

The Dr. Martha B. Fay Public Health Center/Chatham County Health Dept. opened for the first time in May 2013. The 33,000 square foot facility is located behind the existing health department and faces Sallie Mood Drive.
