ATLANTA (WTOC) -

A photo contest is looking for photos of historic buildings or structures associated with the railroad industry in Georgia.

The Historic Railroads of Georgia photo contest deadline is May 25. Submitted photos must depict historic resources associated with the railroad industry in Georgia. This includes depots and other buildings as well as structures like bridges or tunnels.

This is the 5th-annual online photo contest held by the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. This contest coincides with National Preservation Month in May.

The contest is held in partnership with RailGA.com, an encyclopedic resource on the state's railroad history. Submitted photos may be used to provide updated imagery for the site.

Entries will be posted on the Division's Facebook page as they are received. Photos may be emailed to georgiashpo@gmail.com and must meet the following requirements:

  • Be 1200x800 pixels at 300 ppi or larger.
  • Be the photographer's original work, submitted under a Creative Commons license.
  • Provide information of the photographer, hometown, photo location and description of the building or site depicted.

Winners will be announced in a press release and on the HPD website and Facebook page
