SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Space X is preparing to launch its third supply capsule to the International Space Station.

Savannah State University sophomore Shakema Bowman, a forensic science major, is with Dr. Karla-Sue Marriot, associate professor of Chemistry and Forensic Science, in  Cape Canaveral, FL to watch the launch which is scheduled for 4:59 p.m. on Monday.

The Space X-3 rocket will be transporting cutting-edge research from Savannah State University.

Marriot and her students spent months synthesizing compounds that may be useful in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and other disorders that astronauts typically encounter after long-term space travel.
