Tattnall Co judge denies request concerning Vidalia onion crop

TATTNALL CO., GA (WTOC) -

A Tattnall County judge denied a request from Bland Farms to stop the Department of Agriculture from setting rules on when farmers can begin packing and shipping onions.

The rules are part of a federal agreement that farmers put into place to protect the quality of the Vidalia crop.

A court in Atlanta ruled in Bland Farms' favor last month, but the state wants to enforce the rule while they appeal. Meanwhile, Bland Farms says they are shipping now, a week before the state's starting date.
