PETA asks Savannah Mayor to ban carriages

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Animal rights group PETA is asking Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson to ban horse drawn carriages in the streets of downtown Savannah.

The move comes after a horse that was pulling a carriage got spooked and then took off, smashing into cars and injuring the driver.

PETA points out in its letter to Jackson that similar incidents have occurred in nearly every city in which horse-drawn carriages operate, often injuring or killing horses, motorists, onlookers, carriage operators or passengers.
