Rainy weather could impact Orange Crush

The rain could water down Orange Crush this year.

Even with the rainy weather, Tybee Island does not plan on scaling back their public safety efforts.

The city has already canceled the local preachers who were going to hit the beach in an effort to spread some Easter love and good spirit.

The ministers can still go out if they would like, but Tybee Police Chief Bob Bryson expects they will have plenty to get ready for on Easter Sunday.

Bryson said they will still have twice as many law enforcement on hand for the festivities. However, that could change depending on the weather and the number of people who actually show up for Orange Crush.

Tybee Island Mayor Jason Buelterman said clean up efforts will not be affected as they aim to be ready for Sunrise Service Easter morning.

"We'll still be doing that, regardless of what the weather is on Sunday morning," said Buelterman. "We will make sure the beach is clean, but even through the weather looks like it will not be so good, we will still, at this time, treat it as if it will be a busy weekend."

At 5 p.m. Bryson said he will check with hotels on reservation numbers and decide if they need to start adjusting the law enforcement team they've assembled.
