TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Tybee Island police made several arrests Friday night and into Saturday at Orange Crush.

According to the mayor, 12 people were arrested last night, and there were more arrests made on Saturday. Tybee Island Police, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police, CEMA, the Sheriff's Office, Georgia State Patrol and Tybee Island Ocean Rescue are out on Tybee Island making sure everyone is safe and obeying the law.

Officers are parked along Butler Avenue with tag readers. Ocean Rescue crews are out on the beach, along with more police officers making sure folks are safe in the water. Another thing that they are watching for is the trash. The mayor says they have put more trash cans out along the beach and are stressing to folks to throw your trash away. Anyone caught littering will be fined.

"Our motto out here is leave only your footprints so we hope that people abide by that, but if for some reason they don't we'll be issuing citations, and we also have a crew of our department of public works who will be out here late this evening to make sure that the beach is cleaned up," said Tybee Island Mayor Jason Buelterman.

The pier closes at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Police crews will be out monitoring the remainder of the night.
