GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

The City of Garden City announces its intention to levy it's first-ever property tax - a millage rate in fiscal year 2014 of 4.0 mills.

On April 7, the City Council adopted a resolution to set the 2014 millage rate for ad valorem purposes and decided to tentatively adopt a millage rate of 4.0 mills for the 2014 budget year.

In order to set a final millage rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the proposed millage rate increase.

The public hearings will be held at the Garden City Council chamber, with the first being on Monday, May 5 at 3 p.m. The other two will be on Monday, May 19 at 9 in the morning and 6 in the evening.
