BCSO investigating St. Helena motel robbery

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery of a St. Helena motel that occurred late on Monday night.

Deputies responded to the Quality Inn on Sea island Parkway just before 10:30 p.m. in reference to a robbery. Deputies made contact with a 71-year-old male employee who told deputies the he had just been robbed at gunpoint by an unknown black male.

The victim told deputies he noticed the suspect loitering outside the motel and went out to help the man. The suspect said he was looking for a friend's room, then pulled out a handgun and forced the employee back inside to the front desk.

The suspect ordered the victim to open the cash register, and after taking the money from the register the suspect fled the scene, running toward Sea Island Parkway.

The victim was not hurt during the altercation.

The suspect was described as a black male between 30 and 40 years of age, standing approximately 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing.
