Stores in Savannah, Bluftton affected by Michaels data breach

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

New details have emerged in the credit card security breach that occurred throughout Michaels craft stores, including two stores that were affected in the Savannah and Bluffton areas.

More than 20 stores in Georgia were affected by the security breach, including the Michaels on Abercorn Street. Officials believe it all started in May 2013 and ended in January 2014.

Officials do not believe any personal information, like names, addresses or PINs, was stolen, but they believe that hackers were able to get credit card numbers and expiration dates.

Officials said the hackers got about seven percent of their customers' information nationwide.

One customer that shopped at the Michaels on Abercorn during the time period said she hasn't had any problems with her credit card, but after this incident and other recent hacks at stores like Target, she's going to be extra careful.

"I keep all the receipts and double check against that for validity, but I use my credit cards for miles and points, so that isn't going to deter me from that, but I am going to be more cognizant of looking at the receipts," said Michaels customer Kathy Levitt.

Michaels has released a list of all the stores in the United States that were affected by this data breach, but there is a discrepancy. The list includes the newly opened Michaels on Pooler Parkway, but that is a mistake. The Pooler Parkway location was not affected by the data breach.
