Outstanding volunteers in the community are unsung heroes, but the United Way is making sure they receive their due.

On Wednesday, Hands on Savannah honored five top volunteers in the community at a ceremony at Savannah Station.

Winners were selected from 55 very deserving candidates; people that the United Way said take joy in serving the Coastal Empire and beyond.

"We have go just some great award winners, and it really gives you some hope for what we can look forward to in our future with some of our youth award winners," said United Way of the Coastal Empire President Greg Schroeder.

Sabrina Jones was awarded the Herchel V. Jenkins Volunteer of the Year Award for her work with the Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club.

A $1,000 prize was awarded to the club, and she received a $500 scholarship.
