Annual Vidalia Onion Festival underway in Toombs County

The 37th Annual Vidalia Onion Festival kicked off Thursday in Toombs County.

This year's festival runs April 24-27 in downtown Vidalia.

The 4-day family-friendly event, held each spring, celebrates the harvesting of the famous Vidalia Sweet Onion crop. It offers an array of fun-filled activities the entire family can enjoy.

Several events were held earlier in the month in conjunction to the annual festival such as a Battle of the Bands, Pageants, a Youth Boys Baseball Tournament and a carnival.

Thursday's children's parade and opening ceremonies will kick off the festivities, which will include a street dance, Sweet Onion car show, arts & crafts festival, Sweet Onion Antique Sale, Vidalia Onion Festival concert featuring Uncle Kracker as the headline act, Carnival, an Onion Run, the always favorite onion eating contest and much more.
