GBI: Heroin submissions increasing

ATLANTA (WTOC) -

In a GBI Crime Lab analysis of drug submissions, heroin submissions have increased annually since 2011.

The GBI statistics reflect data from a fiscal year cycle from July to June.

From 2011 to the present, heroine submissions have increased by more than 300 percent.

The increase from 2011 to 2012 was only 28 percent; the increase between 2012 and 2013 increased more than 100 percent.

With two months left in the 2014 fiscal year, heroin submissions have again risen another 20 percent. In going over the data from 2013 to 2014, heroin submissions increased by 20 percent compared to a 22 percent decrease in all other drugs submitted during that period.

2011- 276 heroin submissions

2012- 356 heroin submissions

2013- 717 heroin submissions

2014 to date- 863 submissions

For all other drug submissions:

2013- 29,067 other drug submissions

2014 to date- 22,622 other drug submissions.
